Current designer trends that show strong references to previous eras

I have chosen two examples which were worn by men and currently can be worn by both sexes, as they both are worn on the head.

My first example is the Ushanka (translated as “ear-flops-hat”) since 11th century:

Ushanka hats are stereotyped Russian hats, but we can find similar design in China, North Korea, Eastern Europe the former Soviet Union, as well as in Canada and North America. Since 1940 the Red Army introduced the ushanka, which has been officially a winter hat for the army and the police forces in the Soviet Union, right after 1939 during the Winter War in Finland, where thousands of Russian died of cold. This fashionable hat became unisex from menswear only, and you can wear it in more different ways, often folded up and tied at the top or worn down and tied at the chin or not tied up at all. You can have it in different shapes, sizes, and colours, real or faux fur, as you can see in fashion shoots or catwalks from around the world, like Toronto Fashion Week – Soia & Kyo Fall/Winter 2012, or Fashion Runway collections; from Jean Paul Gaultier and Fendi to Dolce & Gabbana.

My second example is the Hoodie:

The garment’s style and form can be traced back to Medieval Europe when the formal wear for monks included a long, decorative hood, called “cowl”. The word “hoodie” became popular in the 1990s. By the time it became fashionable, unisex and a basic garment to everyone’s wardrobe. It became very popular especially in Hip Hop culture, in movies (the Rocky film), chavs, skateboarders, surfers and many others.

By the 1990s, the hoodie had evolved into a symbol of isolation, a statement of academic spirit, and several fashion collections, like Tommy Hilfiger, Giorgio Armani. Ralph Lauren used the hoodie as the primary component for many of their collections in the 1990s.

I’ve spent the last ten years working as a fashion designer and as a stylist. I believe my creativity and skills could help You
